The scoring just never stopped.

In one of the first-ever open division play-in matchups, No. 5 Brophy and No. 12 Casteel went to war, tugging and pulling, but it was the Broncos who eventually pulled the rope across the line, winning 51-42. At the center of it all: 2026 quarterback Case Vanden Bosch, who had seven total touchdowns.

“That was the best game of my life,” Vanden Bosch said.

Despite fumbling on the Broncos’ first offensive drive of the game, Vanden Bosch never let it get to his head, contributing and leading Brophy to a score on every single one of its offensive drives except for the one the Broncos took a knee on, ending the game.

“He’s just become a better leader and done a nice job,” Brophy head coach Jason Jewell said. “He’s just so versatile, and when we need tough yards, he’s able to get them.”

Jewell said it means a lot for this Brophy team to have the opportunity to compete for an open division championship.

“(Getting an open division win) was our pregame speech, that this is three years in the making for our kids,” Jewell said. “That was always our goal was to make the open, and we didn’t the last two years, and we felt like we were an open team.

“Little ironic that we go eight and two, whatever, a couple years ago, two years in a row, right? And then this year we’re six and four, and we’re in the open. So I guess that’s what strength of schedule will do for you. But our kids are battle-tested.”

The Standouts

2026 Brophy Quarterback Case Vanden Bosch

This is a kid who just loves to ball. Vanden Bosch’s game has improved drastically since he stepped into the starting role Brophy last season. He has helped lead the Broncos to back-to-back outings with 50 or more points. It seems like his teammates really rally around him, and he has a lot of support. His brother, Bastian, came up to him screaming and hugging him on the field after the game. It was a very cool moment. Vanden Bosch is going to excel in Air Force’s offense.

2026 Casteel Quarterback Tee Smith Jr.

Smith has done a heck of a job stepping into the starting role since taking over the starting job midseason. In just six games, Smith has 26 total touchdowns. He seems to be the perfect fit for the way this Casteel offense plays and could be the spark that potentially leads the Colts to make a deep 6A playoff run.

Soundoff

2026 Brophy quarterback Case Vanden Bosch on what it meant to win an open division game in his last home game: “It’s so special, man. I mean, this was my last game on this field, you know, as a senior, it’s emotional, but, you know, it’s amazing to come out here with my guys and get this win. Such a huge win for us.”

2026 Brophy wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald on his relationship with 2026 quarterback Case Vanden Bosch: “We’ve been going to school together since first grade, he’s (been) my quarterback since then… honestly, it’s just we have a great connection and brotherly bond.”
