Hamilton sophomore wide receiver Roye Oliver III has been named the 2025 Arizona high school football Gatorade Player of the Year, Gatorade announced in a press release Friday morning.

“Pretty surreal,” Roye’s father, R.J. Oliver, said in a text message to Arizona Varsity. “Never would have thought coming into the season.”

Oliver had a monstrous sophomore campaign that shook the record books.

With 92 receptions, Oliver totaled 1,843 receiving yards, a single-season 6A record, and the third most all-time regardless of division, 29 receiving touchdowns, a single-season 6A record that tied a record, regardless of division, set by former Yuma Catholic wide receiver John Henderson in 2018

Oliver also caught six touchdowns in a game against Sandra Day O’Connor on Sept. 5, which puts Oliver in a three-way tie with former Ironwood Ridge wide receiver Garrett Billings, former Mountain Ridge wide receiver Josh Morrow, for second-most in a game all-time regardless of division.

“Roye is very instinctive, explosive, and has great body control,” Basha head coach Chris McDonald said in Gatorade’s press release. “He makes tough catches and plays look easy.”

Oliver is the first non-senior to be recognized as the Arizona high school football Gatorade Player of the Year since former Liberty quarterback Navi Bruzon won it as a junior in 2022.

The 247Sports Composite has Oliver rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 52 overall prospect nationally, No. 2 in Arizona, in the 2028 class.

Oliver has reported offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Colorado State, Florida State, Marshall, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, SMU, Southern Miss, Texas, UCLA, USC, and Vanderbilt.
