The 6A Conference stands alone as the only conference that has yet to complete its regular season. That’ll happen this coming Friday.

But for now, we take a look back at last week, the final regular season game for 3A-5A teams. There weren’t too many surprises across the board. But a big time matchup in 4A Conference that determined the No. 1 seed in the postseason took place in the White Mountains.

With that being said, here’s a look at some of the top storylines from Week 10 in the Arizona high school football season.

Arcadia claims top spot in 4A Conference

Arguably one of the biggest matchups of the year, regardless of conference, finally took place last Friday in the White Mountains of Arizona. That’s where the Snowflake Lobos welcomed the Arcadia Titans for a battle of the top two teams in 4A.

The game was close for a bit, with both defenses playing well and limiting the opposing high-powered offenses. But the Titans proved to be too much in the end, knocking off the Lobos 32-22 behind senior running back Ryan Jimenez and senior quarterback Zach Smith.

Smith had 146 passing yards and a touchdown. Jimenez ran for a whopping 250 yards and two touchdowns on 41 carries. He also threw a touchdown pass.

Arcadia clinched the No. 1 seed in the 4A playoffs with the win and has a bye to open the postseason. Snowflake is No. 2 with a bye.

Benjamin Franklin shines again in win over Pusch Ridge

While it may have been the case all season, the 3A Conference may truly be Benjamin Franklin’s to lose. The Chargers have been dominant all season long, however some claimed they hadn’t yet been truly tested by some of the conference’s best programs.

That changed Friday when they knocked off Pusch Ridge in Tucson 35-14. Pusch Ridge entered the matchup as a top four team in the conference rankings and the Arizona Varsity Statewide Media Poll. The Lions are now No. 5 heading into the postseason.

Out of 10 opponents for the Chargers, eight are entering the 3A playoffs. Three of them are in the top five (Valley Christian, Thatcher, Pusch Ridge).

In those eight games, Benjamin Franklin outscored the teams 300-87.

The Chargers have been led all year by junior quarterback Gavin Wyler, who has just over 1,900 passing yards and 25 touchdowns on the year. Senior Landon Stetka has shined in the backfield with 974 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. His brother, fellow senior Carson Stetka, has added four touchdowns and 218 yards of his own.

Benjamin Franklin will open the playoffs against No. 16 Dysart on Friday. The two last matched up back on Aug. 22. The Chargers won 49-10.

Campo Verde stuns Arizona College Prep

The Coyotes have been playing inspired with head coach Sean Freeman away from the team to be with his daughter, Brylee, while she battles cancer. They were a preseason top 10 team then took a couple of steps back throughout the season.

But Campo Verde took a major step forward last Friday, knocking off Arizona College Prep 32-27 to build momentum heading into the postseason.

The Coyotes’ run game proved to be the difference, as six different players combined for 316 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Junior Brody Stickle led the way with 119 yards on 26 carries, while junior quarterback Jonah Lubno added 88 more yards on the ground and three touchdowns. Sophomore Marek Bradley also found paydirt to go along with his 51 rushing yards.

The win moved Campo Verde into the No. 11 spot to start the playoffs Friday. Arizona College Prep is No. 7 in the 5A bracket and has a first-round bye.
